A very good friend of mine, Sriram Ponnusamy, the founder of Dhaya Social Welfare Trust, Bengaluru, and few other volunteers are trying to help people in chennai affected by the recent downpour. I am creating this campaign to help him with the relief activities. I have copied his words from the facebook post that he made recently:
Friends, Need your help for Chennai Flood Relief:
As I write this, it has been one full day spent without being able to get in touch with my family but I’m confident that they are safe. This confidence partly comes from the fact that there are so many good souls putting up a compassionate effort out there. That thought made me pitch in to do my bit to bring down the sufferings of people, in any possible manner I could. However small it is going to be, it is definitely better than just "Praying for Chennai" from here.
To start with, the following are the much required items in need as identified by Vazhai(the NGO I’ve been volunteering with) after talking to people doing relief work on the field. Vazhai’s volunteers are also planning to travel from Bangalore to Cuddalore/Chennai on Friday with a container truck full of these items.
1. Ready to eat food items like Rusk, biscuits, dryfruits, bread, jam etc..
3. Plastic mats to sleep on
4. Mosquito coils
5. Battery lights
6. Sanitary Napkins
I’m trying to raise funds to buy these items and distribute them through different volunteer groups I know of. It would be great help if people could contribute for this cause. NGOs need to have FCRA license to accept international funds and Dhaya trust does not yet have this license. In order to accept the donations from our friends in US, this campaign's fund will be directly deposited to my personal account. If you wish to donate in kind, please call Sriram Ponnusamy at +917829818257. This is a genuine effort and needs the support of people like you.
Dhaya is a registered Indian NGO established in 2012. Dhaya supports under-privileged students in their college education. Dhaya also runs various education-related projects in Bengaluru. Sriram has also been working with various NGOs in Bengaluru and Chennai for the past 6-7 years. Dhaya is primarily supported by close-knit friends and volunteers to contribute constructively for a better future. As this is a volunteer-driven organization, we assure that 100% of your donations will go directly towards the cause.
