"When the doctors called me to see my twin babies after their birth, I was overwhelmed with emotions. For a moment I thought all our dreams had come true but the next moment, I was filled with fears of losing them. They were too tiny and were struggling to breathe. Within a few minutes of their birth, they were taken to NICU. When I look at them I feel they are incredibly thirsty, but we cannot feed them. I juggle between hospitals to bring milk to my babies. When the nurse gives them few drops of milk via tubes, they throw it up in a few seconds. I fear I might lose them even before my wife could hold our babies in her arms." - Arun, Father of the twin babies.

Twin babies of Preethi are extremely low weight and every breath is a struggle for them

Preethi and her husband Arun felt elated when she became pregnant. They called everyone they knew and they did everything they could do to welcome their babies.  One day, during her 7th month of pregnancy, Preethi woke up in excruciating pain in the middle of the night and was rushed to the hospital. Doctors told that she needs an immediate C- section and her twins were born extremely low weight, weighing only 895 gms and 775 gms each. Even before Preethi could gain consciousness, the twin babies were taken to NICU and later they were shifted to a different hospital when their condition became very critical.

"It has been 12 days since they were born and my wife hasn't see them yet. As soon as she opened her eyes, she asked about her babies. She was begging, pleading, crying to everyone in the hospital to take her to the babies. Unfortunately, she got infections and she needs new stitches after it heals. She can hardly walk. She is crying all the day. It is terrible that as a mother, she cannot even be next to her babies when they are fighting for life. I tell her babies are recovering and we can take them home soon, but I'm dying inside. I have no strength to tell her about our's baby condition." - Arun.

Twin babies need prolonged treatment without which they will not survive

Arun was totally devastated when he heard that his twin babies are now suffering from sepsis, shock and pneumonia. The babies are now prone more to infections and he is allowed to see them only for a few minutes in a day. His babies need another 6 weeks of NICU stay to recover completely.

"My wife doesn't know yet that our babies have pneumonia and sepsis. I have no strength to tell her that. I'm all alone now, looking at my babies and crying helplessly. I don't understand how their tiny bodies could take so much pain. I'm sure they will fight all this but I have no clue what I can do to save them. I'm staying every night in the hospital. I have no strength to go to my empty house, I can't bear that emptiness. Without our babies, our lives will be changed forever." - Arun.

Father has no income now and his job is at risk, and has exhausted all his resources to save his babies

Arun works in a private company as a storekeeper and he was earning a meager amount. He did not go to his office since the twins were born. He has been managing all these days with the money he had borrowed. Now he is struggling to even buy meals.

"I go to the hospital where my wife is admitted every morning, she pumps out milk and I take that back to my babies. Rest of the day I run to everyone I knew to borrow money. I feel completely exhausted, the thought of my babies struggling for their life is what makes me run the whole day with no food and sleep. I don't know if I can join my work again after taking so many days off. I don't know what I can do. I have already unpaid bills but my babies need 6 more weeks of treatment to survive. I feel completely lost. " - Arun.
