About the campaign

Why am I fundraising?

Malnutrition is the most common cause of child mortality in India. Our country has the largest number of malnourished children in the world. According to the 2014 Rapid Survey on Children (Govt. of India) report, 38.7% of children under the age of 5 years in India suffer from chronic malnutrition, the most severe form of malnutrition.
Briddhi or ‘Growth’, is CARE India’s initiative against malnutrition in India. Launched in the year 2013, this initiative is currently being implemented in two blocks of Purulia District in West Bengal. The core objective of the initiative is improving the nutritional status of severely malnourished 3-6 year-old children in Purulia-II and Jhalda-II blocks of the district.
Covering a total of 223 villages, Briddhi works with various stakeholders at multiple levels. This includes close cooperation with Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) workers, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Gram Panchayats, and local NGOs apart from the community itself.
Briddhi’s frontline workers focus particularly on children suffering from Severe and acute malnutrition (SAM) across the two blocks which are identified with the help of ICDS workers and monitored as part of an intervention. Lack of awareness regarding basic hygiene, nutrition and sanitation is one of the biggest reasons for the prevalence of malnutrition. The Briddhi team addresses this issue by using magic shows and quizzes to spread awareness. Regular demonstrations of locally available low-cost nutritious food are also a part of awareness generation.
Since 2013, Briddhi has reached over 50000 families across Purulia District. Our interventions have reached over 15000 malnourished children. We have trained ICDS workers from more than 400 centres across the district. We have successfully reached a total population of 2.9 lakh through our initiative.
Why do we need your contributions?
There has been a steady increase in the number of malnourished children in the 0-3 age group in Purulia as compared to the 3-6 age group.  We urgently need to expand our operations in at least 5 more blocks of Purulia within the next year to reach out to malnourished children in the 0-3 age group. We need your contributions to expand our reach and keep up our fight against malnutrition.

What do I plan to do with the funds?
