BraveNewWorld: Create a better world for 77 underprivileged kids : TFI

India is currently facing one of the worst educational crises in the world. Today, less than 10% of kids in India graduate from schools and enter colleges. Teach For India is a non-profit organization that believes in an excellent education for all children and is striving to end the problem of educational inequity in our country.

Chaitanya EMS in the Peth areas of Pune is one such school that Teach for India works with. It is a low-income private school and our kids come from some of the poorest and most violent areas of Pune.

Mangalwar Peth is known for murder and other social violence while Tadiwala road deals with an alcoholism problem which eats away a normal living and makes way for violence in the community. Such violence is therefore even reflected in the classroom. However, each of these kids are extremely bright and has high potential but the lack of love, care and attention at home results in their low self-esteem and stops them from reaching it. Their lack of resources both in financial terms along with exposure stops them from getting a glimpse of what they can become and results in their lack of motivation.

Their houses are of the size of one of our cubicles. Their family income ranges in between five thousand to eight thousand at an average. Yet every time we walk into these houses, the amount of love and respect we receive is something we have always found enchanting. While we cannot do anything about their present scenario, we want to empower each of these kids with values, knowledge and exposure. Research shows that a combination of these three can lead to an excellent education. An excellent education can be a ticket for my kids to move out of these places and strive towards a normal and decent living.

With the amount of violence and mental disruption my kids go through everyday, we are planning on organizing some counselling sessions. We're also hoping to organize sessions on performing arts with my kids as it has been realized as a medium for holistic education.

To encourage my kids to read and write more because reading and writing can be empowering, we're looking to build a library in our classroom. For all of these, it'd be great if we can reach out to as many people as possible. Therefore, even if you feel it is not possible for you to donate, do reach out to others who can.

A lot of love and gratitude for contributing to this cause.
Thanks a lot.

Considering I couldn't raise enough funds for a community centre, I'm planning to use this amount for creating a class library and some for classroom supplies. This'll give the kids some kind of exposure to works outside their curriculum as well as help them to develop their reading capabilities.

It'd be great if you could reach out to me personally on mail if you have any preferences of books that you'd wish to suggest for my class. I'm looking forward to some suggestions.

I had created this list some time back to reach out to more people. You could also suggest books from this list which you'd want to be addressed to the kids in your name.

Also, thanks a lot for all your help. I see a number of 'anonymous' here. Please reach out to me personally at so that I can thank you. As for the rest, I'll reach out to you soon with pictures, details and messages from the kids.
