Flood Relief Fund - Bengal

Bengal, Bihar, Assam and more states are vigorously affected by the flood. First, heavy rainfall and then opening various barrage gates of Bihar, West Bengal, Bhutan to release overflowing water has worsened the situation for all. Along with this, many small dams have been destroyed by the mighty force of water. Many places are completely cut out from all sorts of communication making it more difficult for people to reach to support. As the water is decreasing in some places and making them accessible to organizations and individuals we are in enormous need of dry food, temporary shelter homes, medicine and more.  Water borne diseases are spreading rapidly while one can hear people cry for some droplets of drinkable water.

I personally started sending money and materials in some places but as we are in need of more, I am starting this fundraiser. This one particularly is targeting Bengal flood as I have been able to establish connects with people and organizations working there for flood relief. The collected money will go to local welfare associations of Siliguri, Coochbehar, Alipur Duar. Bharat Sebasram Sangha, and some non-registered group of people both from North and South Bengal. My effort to reach out to organisations is still on. I shall keep all updated about the same.

In North Bengal, we are expected to have better reach to distant villages in next 5 to 7 days and then we shall need another wave of support from every nook and corner. Hence this effort this week. Hope to have support from friends and friends of friends and more.

Thanking you all in advance. This is my first effort with crowd funding website!Looking forward to all the support.

Dear donors,

First of all, thank you for your support. And sorry for a delayed update. As withdrawing funds from here, has different steps, I went ahead using some money from my savings. I needed to do so as I was not being able to find time to post a proper update and do necessary procedures for making the withdrawal due to being caught up in running between hospitals for the last two weeks. Better later than never. So, here goes the updates about the usage of your donations.

As shared in the fundraiser intro, the money was sent to individuals and local civil societies who were doing relief work. 2 among them are school teachers and 2 college-going teens. The fund has been utilised for relief work in two districts of West Bengal, Alipur Duar and Cooch Behar. They mostly needed a supply of dry food (puffed rice, chiwda and jaggery), drinking water, local brand juices (helps gain calory at times of food scarcity), and some basic medicines like ORS, amoxicillin and norfloxacin based antibiotics. Whoever among you are aware of the state of affairs in small towns India will know that having bills for grocery items is not a common practice there. And most of the shops do not possess proper bill books. Besides, as my fundraiser could manage to raise a small amount of fund, it involved a bulk purchase of comparatively small quantity.  I have asked for bills etc. from the people and they have promised me to provide with me some, especially those of medicines etc. which I have to update milaap with.

I am grateful to all who supported by donating and sharing it in their network. For any further queries about the work this fundraiser could do, you can reach out to me over facebook. The money has been sent to the people on the ground last week only. They are still visiting remote areas (apart from this fundraiser, there are local supports and other people helping them with money and resources, thankfully). So, we are likely to receive further updates of the work in coming weeks.
