After 16 years of meeting the basic needs of poor villagers in Bihar, India - providing food, clean water and shelter - BAUSS is ready to tackle one of the greatest needs of the people they serve. The building of a medical facility is critical to address high infant mortality, childhood preventable diseases, and overall healthcare. This fundraiser is to allow to purchase land in the Samastipur District in Bihar to first purchase land and then to build a three-level medical facility to provide preventive medical services and intervention medical services to children, pregnant women, and other adults.  The goal is to decrease infant mortality rates by providing prenatal care, address a rise in childhood illnesses from preventable diseases, treat common illnesses like colds, and to train competent healthcare professionals to deliver services to the poor in this District.  The medical facility will be a training site for professional nurses and doctors who want to work in rural healthcare.  The facility will make access to free medical care possible to hundreds of thousands of needy babies, pregnant mothers, children and families.

According to the BAUSS Civil Engineer, we have the following plans and calculations. We will build a 40,000 square foot medical clinic style building with 3 floors. As per the calculation the ground floor will cost Indian Rupees 1,800 per square foot and Rupees 1,400 per square foot for first and second floor. That breaks down to 23,999,400 Rupees for the ground floor, and 37,332,400 Rupees for the second and third floors combined.  Total of 61,331,800 Rupees for construction. Or, a total of $859,693 US dollars for construction.  This construction price includes all materials, labor costs, piling, constructing, plastering, designing, painting etc. The price is a standard one used in many parts of the country.

The additional cost in Rupees is 24278018 or $340,307 US dollars to purchase land, clear the land, complete surveys and all pre-construction costs.  Total project is 85609823 Rupees and $1,200,000 in US dollars. Any donations over collected over costs will go toward medical furniture, and training for new healthcare professional who will serve the new medical building.
