40 years old Mr. & Mrs. Shobarani, both hailing from a rural area in Andhra Pradesh were childless for 15yearrs. They had built up their savings over the years, traveled to a new place, with a new language to experience the joy of having their child through IVF conception. Their happiness was short lived as the twins had to be delivered prematurely in view of hypertension in the mother (eclampsia). The babies were delivered at SRMC by emergency cesarean at 26 weeks with a birth weight of 990 gms and 1.2kgs. The babies were shifted to NICU immediately and the mother to adult ICU. The father all alone had to take care of both the mother and the babies.
The father works as a government driver and has been taking care of his babies and wife through loan and interests from his village. In spite of appropriate medical care the second twin died on day 3 of life due to sepsis. The father alone had to undergo such burden as he couldn’t share the information with his wife who was already in ICU with hypertension. The mother has recovered but has still high pressures and is struggling to feed the baby.
The surviving twin is now currently day 52 of life, requires maximum ventilator support, has intermittent acute deterioration episodes and has recently undergone heart surgery. The baby’s condition has not yet improved and parents have done their maximum efforts in supporting for their newborn. The parents have undergone such enormous mental trauma, with no family to share, language barrier and no place to stay. The parents are indebted with loans which were borrowed for the baby’s treatment. Father is unable to afford a place to stay and sleeps on pavements so that he can save up every penny for the baby’s treatment.
The baby requires another 2-3 weeks of ventilator support and 4-6 weeks of ICU stay. ICU expenses will amount up to 2.3-2.5 lakhs. Their entire village has been waiting to see them bring home a baby, but parents here are helpless, have already lost one child and now have no resources to continue care for the surviving twin. Please do contribute and make a difference in their family life and make their dream of having a healthy little one at home a reality.
