The other day my student, Supriya told me that she feels guilty if she has to skip school for a day and she feels that she owes it to her teachers and it is her responsibility to do justice to the opportunity she has been given. I was amazed by this little reflective creature who is so dedicated and determined at this tender age of 14. Yes, definitely she is one of my favorite students.
Most of you are aware that I am currently doing Teach For India fellowship and teaching 8th and 9th graders in a government school in Ayanagar. Last year, my students applied for the Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalyas which are the higher end government schools aimed at providing quality education to the students from other government schools in Delhi. 5 of my students cleared the entrance exam and were among the top 50 students. But the challenge that lied ahead was how to commute to the school that is 23 km far from their homes. 3 of our students yet decided to go ahead and take admission in the RPVV Dwarka Sec-5 school, because they understood the value of the education and the opportunities they will receive being a part of that school.
Supriya, Megha and Tanvi are surely our brightest students and have always made us proud. Supriya writes amazing poetry and has performed at various platforms in Mumbai and Bangalore. Megha plans to do majors in Science and become a scientist. Tanvi dreams of becoming a lawyer and is very good at creative writing. For them to become what they have always dreamt of , it is imperative to get better education and guidance.
This can only become possible with your support. Ankita (my co-fellow) and I are raising funds to make travel arrangements for our kids. The cost is Rs. 12000 per month and required on a monthly basis for 2 years. (9th and 10th grade)
In the past, most of you have supported us and have placed your trust in us. This made it possible for our kids to take advantage of the opportunities that come their ways and move a bit closer to their dreams. We are grateful to you.
