My mother Arti Pandey being the only lady in our family has been the base of support upon which three of us-my father,younger brother and me balance our lives. She is the backbone of our family and has always been the one to keep us motivated,bear our tantrums. But recently she began suffering from fever which wouldn't suppress by any medication,she faced many difficulties like vomiting,severe pain in body. It was so painful to see her suffering from pain even though she was receiving treatment from local doctors in hometown Jamshedpur,Jharkhand. Her haemoglobin would fall abnormally to critical level resulting in extreme weakness and inability to walk or do any metabolic work. It was then we decided to move her to bigger hospital like Christian Medical College,Vellore where her blood cancer was revealed.
We were devastated by the news as we never expected such a healthy woman who commanded our house ,a loving housewife to get this fatal disease out of nowhere.The only cure for her recovery is Bone Marrow Transplant which is ridiculously expensive. Since she has no sibling she would have to undergo Haplo or half bone marrow transplant from me which is even costlier. It felt like we lost before the battle begin when the doctor told us either we workaround to pay unaffordable 28 lakhs for her bone marrow transplant or we mentally prepare ourselves to lose her. Those words still scream through my ears and wake me up at night as the thought of losing my mother tears me apart.
Being from a middle class family it is nearly impossible to gather such humongous amount as my father Sanjay Pandey who works in a private transport company in Jamshedpur is the only earning member in the family. I am in my pre-final year of engineering in Bangalore and my brother is still in 10+2 ISC. Every middle class person would feel the unbearable load which burdens my father's heart and shoulders as he has to sacrifice his job to facilitate her treatment at Vellore, far from our home.
With your help in the form of little donations and sharing this fundraiser among your peers,family or any other group would be like one prayer for my mother's health. From the core of my heart i specially urge all the daughters and sons out there who could never imagine what it would feel like to lose a mother.
Currently she is undergoing painful chemotherapy at the Hospital and it pains my heart to see her in such distress. One thing that makes me admire her more is her perpetual strength to beat this cancer without losing hope, will all you gentle and kind souls out there become a part of her hope??
