Since a few years, with his association “Annaprodokshan Charitable Trust”, Pravin Kumar try to act for improve the life in Pondicherry (Tamil Nadu). You can see all his action on the facebook page ( Annapradokshana Charitable Trust ).
He has begin his action by redistribute the food waste from hotels and marriage to the poor peoples in the city, especially the road sweepers. Today he want to focus on the environment and nature.
His new project is going to increase the biodiversity in Pondicherry and promote awareness about the importance of biodiversity to the childrens in their school.
What is the project ?
The aim of the project is to create a little forest in a school in Pondicherry with the agroforestry technique developed by Michinori Konagano. This technique allowed tree to grow twice faster and to plant a large number of tree in a small area. There is going to be 180 trees plant in 600 feet². As the trees are really close to each other, it’s provide more biodiversity because the species fell more protect since no one can go in the middle of the tree. 20 different indien species are going to be plant.
How the children are going to be involved ?
The trees are going to be plant in a school and the oldest childrens of the school are going to be responsible of the trees and to provide water when it’s needed. The children who are going to especially take care of thee project are going to be reward with some items useful for school such as book, shoes, workbooks, etc.
Why the tree are important ?
The tree provide a better air quality, cool down the atmosphere, increase biodiversity, give food, reduce pollution and they provide much more benefices. They are vital for a good quality of life.
How the money is going to be used ?
To plant the trees with this particular technique, the ground must be prepared.The money is going to be used to :

- Rent a JCB machine to make a hole of 4 feet depth for the 600 feet² area
- Buy some mineral compost and cow dung to provide nutrition for the trees
- Buy the plants and seeds
- Buy some coconut fibre to keep the moisture of the ground and provide less often water to the trees
If you give just 200 rps, 1 tree can be plant.
And after ?
The aim is not to stop after one school. The aim is that every 200 schools of Pondicherry can benefits from this project. And Pravin is also going create agroforestry area in gouvernemental empty field.
