Help Us Recognize And Honor Our Traditional Arts

It’s all about cherishing our rich culture!
“Art is unquestionably one of the purest and highest elements in human happiness. It trains the mind through the eye, and the eye through the mind. As the sun colors flowers, so does art color life.”

The traditional arts are a part of the very soul of our heritage. These art forms connect us to our roots and express our values through vibrant demonstrations in the form of arts, dances, dramas, crafts, and much more. There are a variety of exceptional art forms that exist today, hidden away within the smaller or lesser known facets of society. Our aim is to bring them into the limelight where they are meant to be, by honoring and recognizing folk artists, and encouraging them as well as others to continue carrying forward our heritage.

Veethi Viruthu Vizha
Veethi Viruthu Vizha is the brainchild of Alternative Media Centre, one of the appropriate traditional folk media center for poor and suppressed folk artists in 32 districts of Tamilnadu (through this Alternative Media Centre & Loyola College, we train their students to empower their communication skills). Over the last 5 years, we have been encouraging the support and promotion of our traditional arts by offering a platform where they can showcase their talents.

At our event - Veethi Viruthu Vizha 2019, we have planned to host over 5000 folk artists across a 2-day affair, and recognize their contribution to our legacy by honoring them with tokens of our gratitude.

Our Plan for the proceeds that we collect for the 2019 event
  • Provide a platform for artists to showcase their art forms (at Loyola College, Chennai).
  • Honor the artists by presenting them with a shield, certificate, dhoti, etc.
  • Recognize our senior artistes with a monetary award.

The arts are empowering; they give a voice to the voiceless; and they help transform communities. This can result in a better person, a better town, a better nation, and certainly a better world! We urge you to contribute to our cause, and help us ensure that our rich, composite culture is preserved for all the generations to come.

Join us at Veethi Viruthu Vizha, in keeping the flow of beauty, culture and tradition alive.
