The Hunger Problem in urban India:
As international development professionals who have worked across the country and other developing nations, one of the biggest social and developmental challenges that we have seen in India is the prevalent, and underappreciated phenomenon of urban destitution.
Hunger in our cities continues to be a very visible, yet relatively unaddressed problem. The statistics speak for themselves:
Project Annadanam was borne out of a resolve to help make a difference, however small, to this dismal state of affairs.

Hunger in our cities continues to be a very visible, yet relatively unaddressed problem. The statistics speak for themselves:
- 20 Crore Indians are undernourished
- 48% of women of reproductive age and 59% of children under 5 are anemic
- One in five children under the age of 5 are underweight and two in five are stunted
Project Annadanam was borne out of a resolve to help make a difference, however small, to this dismal state of affairs.
How we address Hunger:

Project Annadanam uses food vans to provide food to the urban destitute. At present, we use one food van to provide 100 meals 6 days a week to the urban destitute in Hyderabad.
We have entered into an agreement with Touch Stone Foundation, an affiliate of Hare Krishna Movement, Hyderabad to provide us packets of cooked food on a cost reimbursement basis. Our van picks up the food from Touch Stone Foundation’s premises and distributes it to the urban destitute who live in the streets and pavements around Gachibowli, Hyderabad.
We started operations on 1st March 2018 and have distributed 18,732 meals as of November 30, 2018.

Dear Friends,
Thank you all for contributing to our fundraising campaign and helping us address hunger in our streets. The funds raised will help keep us going for another year.
However, we would be unable to scale the number of meals we distribute to 200 since we were unable to raise adequate funds.
We will keep fundraising and as and when we are able to raise adequate funds, we will increase the number of meals we distribute.
Thanks and Regards,
Denny George
