On a global level, at least 500 million women and girls lack adequate facilities for menstrual hygiene management. More than 77% of menstruating women in India use an old cloth, which is often reused, ashes, newspapers, dried leaves and husk sand during periods.

This is considered as a taboo subject among a large population of people mainly due to the lack of knowledge on the subject. People need to be made more aware of the consequences and importance of physical hygiene during this time of the month in order to protect the women experiencing it but also those around. The concept of shame needs to be extracted and rejected from this issue in order to convert it into a topic rather than an issue.

I'm Adya, a volunteer intern, working with Hamari Pahchan NGO, I've only recently joined this cause but am already fully grasped and committed to being about a positive change regarding this subject. It interests me because I believe in everyone deserving basic human rights such as The Right to Social Services. Therefore, underprivileged women shouldn’t be excluded from deserving proper guidance purely based on their social class or status. I truly feel sorry for all the oppressed or unfortunate women who aren’t able to afford this basic and essential item or necessity which most of the world takes for granted.

On World Menstrual Hygiene Day, Hamari Pahchan NGO distributed Sanitary Kits and it came in limelight on Republic Bharat news channel:

After conducting a survey in the slums, it was discovered that there are women who are suffering from various problems due to non-maintenance of their menstrual health.
So, the distribution of sanitary napkins is a small but essential step in slowly but surely making a difference in hundreds and thousands of lives of women.

Hamari Pahchan NGO has distributed more than 30,000 Sukhad Kits in 2021 and their aim is to distribute at least 50,000 Sukhad Kits to women. These kits would include 24 packets of Sanitary Pads 6 packets of Soap and disposable paper envelopes.

Sukhad Kit for 1 woman = Rs.1400/-
Sukhad Kt for 5 women = Rs.7,000/-
