This project is specifically designed to address the problems faced by adolescent girls due to lack of knowledge, information and education on Sexual and reproductive health care with menstrual health and hygiene. These problems lead to serious consequences, both the life and security of adolescent girls as well as long term health hazards. These seriously affect their growth, development and quality of life. Our prime beneficiaries are Adolescent between 12-19 years of age,unmarried young girls and young married girls.
The project will cover 25 villages and 4 schools. Around 1200 targeted beneficiaries will be covered.
The project will create a new learning & enabling environment; based on Awareness, education and accessibility to appropriate prevention, care and timely medical attention.The process will build foundational awareness on the above problem and the irreversible health & social consequences that it is likely to cause. After building awareness at all level, the programme will educate them with appropriate information and knowledge dispelling their traditionally induced ignorance on the above problems. The project will unfold an opportunity for access to knowledge, information and education regarding the sexual, reproductive health and menstrual hygiene..Provide them appropriate information and knowledge and help them to change the attitude and mind-set. Free them from pre-conceived notion about the subject, particularly from the religious-socio-cultural point of view & taboos. Get them educated, equip them on the benefit of using available resources for taking healthy preventive measure and discard old ideas&methods.
Specially to deal with menstrual hygiene, promote the use of low-cost sanitary napkins,enable imbibing healthy and hygienic practices during menstrual period. In order to provide low-cost sanitary napkins, a small manufacturing unit will be established as part of this project. This unit will prepare &provide affordable napkins through social marketing.
The project will be implemented through activities such as; Awareness building seminars, visual displays, focused group discussion. Interface with medical professionals, conduct counselling camps and demonstrate the health benefits of various precautionary measures. Conduct training and refresher course of staff, volunteers and peer-partner group members. Create well equipped cadre of village wise volunteers & peer-partner groups. They will be equipped to take this process forward as accompanier .Even the schools within the project areas will be covered and schools will be motivated to keep low cost napkins.
These groups will promote the social marketing of low-cost napkins and other preventive use of protected sex for young mothers. Promote an on-going educational process among the adolescent on the issues of sexual, reproductive health and menstrual hygiene.
The part of the project is to establish the production unit for low cost sanitary napkins. Which will be appropriately branded, an appealing logo will be developed and packed. This will also become income generating activities for adolescent girls and the profit would be shared for sustainability of the promotion of use of low-cost napkins among the rural adolescent girls, young unmarried girls and married girls, even women.
