Kindly donate to the service of the homeless and socially neglected people with mental illness.
Bethlehem Abhaya Bhavan charitable society is a home for the homeless and the mentally challenged. It is one of the largest independent organizations, located on the outskirts of Ernakulam district, Kerala, India. The organization has been doing exceptional service since its inception which was over 20 years ago. There are currently more than 450 inmates calling Bethlehem Abhaya Bhavan their home. The inmates are all people with mental illness and are people ignored by their own families and the community.
Among the inmates there are people who are diagnosed with cancer, TB, Epilepsy, eczema, dementia, Alzheimer, bi-polar, schizophrenia.
These people are bought to Abhaya Bhavan by the police officers and social workers when they come around people who are lost in streets and are mentally unfit to support themselves. After providing the new inmates with food and other needed care the organization tries to relocate them with their families with the help of police officers and the media. Many such people are relocated by Abhaya Bhavan. The organization provides a shelter, food, medical and psychiatric care, medicines and other stationeries that are required.
Because of the exceptional service provided by the organization we are very well known among the community and over the span of last 20 years the government of Kerala and other national and International bodies.
With the increasing number of inmates it has become hard for the organization to make the two ends meet. And here we are trying to raise funds to continue our services provided to our inmates who have nowhere else to go.
How the funds will be utilized:
3 meals per day per inmate + tea and snacks = Rs 100
Total no: of inmates in the organization = 450
Total food expense for a month = 450*100*30 =13, 50,000
Medical expense for inmates range from = Rs 2500 – Rs 5000
Monthly medical expenditure for all residents = 2500 * 450 * 30 = 11,25,000
Total expense for food and medicines = 24, 75,000
