Story

The Aashray Care Home was established in 2006, in the city of Jaipur (India) by the Positive Women Network of Rajasthan – the Indian state which Jaipur is the capital. Harassment and stigma issues necessitated starting a residence for children impacted by HIV/AIDS. Schools were not admitting them, house owners were not renting out houses to them and they could not be found any place in our National Flagship Programs designed for child survival and protection.

The care home is managed by the women of the Positive Women Network of Rajasthan. Additionally, several of the children's mothers and a number of volunteers oversee the daily duties of the care home. There is a total of seven staff members, four of whom are paid. These individuals function as educators and guardians for the children.

The Home is for HIV infected and affected orphan children who have been rejected by their near ones due to discrimination, death of a parent, or their family´s financial problems. It's a residential care home with 58 children between the ages of 3 to 18 years. The children have come from across Rajasthan - from Jhunjhunu, Churu, Udaipur, Barmer, Jaipur, Jalor, Kairoli, Sikar, Chittorgarh, Alwar.

In 2017 the Boy's House was inaugurated. The Austrian social worker Magdalena Malzner raised 60,000 euros during 5 years and donated to Aashray to build a new place for the boys. At the inauguration, she celebrated her 50th birthday.

Most of them have lost their fathers. Some of the children have their mothers; however in most instances the mother is either very sick or living in absolute poverty conditions due to neglect or abandonment from the home of the in-laws and parents. Most of the children have acquired HIV from their HIV-infected mothers during pregnancy, birth or breastfeeding. We take children to SMS hospital every month to receive Anti Retroviral Therapy (free of cost) and to have additional blood tests. Our children living with HIV are under daily medication. HIV can not be cured but by regular check-ups, nutritious food, and good hygienic environment our children live long and healthy life. Our children do all of the things other people can do: go to school, exercise and work.

The mission of Aashray Care Home is to nurture the dreams of children. Our vision is to let every HIV affected and infected child live with dignity and courage. Children here are redesigning their dreams and aspirations through community involvement and participation. Our aim is to provide care, protection, love, and development for the HIV infected and affected children living at Aashray Care Home.

Help us to provide school books, school uniform, medicines and also to finish the Boy's House construction.
