    Shankar Thakur

    from New Delhi, Delhi

I am Shankar Thakur from Jharkhand India. I am 22years old and currently work with Decathlon Sports India Limited at Delhi India.  I developed my passion for long distance cycling working as a cycle delivery personnel with various e-commerce companies in Delhi. I have been cycling on a daily basis since the last eight years thanks to my occupation.
The cycle I use for all my long-distance expeditions and events has a single speed, steel frame and steel rim ‘Standard Cycle’.  This rudimentary and simple cycle has been a great companion in all cycling endeavors.
My passion for long distance cycling drove me towards participating and successfully completing multiple Brevet (BRM) events. Brevet (Brevet de Randonneur Mondiaux - BRM) are long-distance cycling events with prescribed time limits in designated but unmarked routes with control points to check off transit of the cyclists participating. It’s a ride of independence, a chance for you to ride in whatever way you want with a focus on you, your bike and the road that lies ahead of you.
Through my participation in multiple Brevet events, I have also been able to win the title of a Super Randonneur (SR). This title is earned by any rider who completes a series of brevets (200 Km – 13.5 Hrs, 300 Km – 20 Hrs, 400 Km – 27 Hrs, and 600 Km – 40 Hrs ) in the same year. A medal is also available for those holding this title.
I have 3 SR medals (year-no). I have been unique in this endeavor as I have to be able to complete all my events on my basic Single Speed Steel Cycle.
My next goal after completing the SR events in India was to participate in the prestigious Paris-Brest-Paris brevet event held in France. The oldest cycling event in the world, Paris-Brest-Paris, is being held in 2019 for just the 26th time since 1891.
Paris-Brest-Paris is a 1,200km self-supported ride from Paris, to Brest in Brittany, and back again. First, run in 1891, it is by most descriptions the oldest cycling event still in existence today and the pinnacle of the audax and randoneurring calendar.

Budget
My planned dates for the travel are from 13th Aug 2019 to 23rd Aug 2019.

Other expenses such as spending 10 days travel across the continent on cycle, food, supplements and stay, etc.
