    Swarnali Das

    from Sonarpur, West Bengal

“I haven’t even fed my daughter food or given her medicines. It’s a terrible feeling, but, it’s only because we are worrying about arranging funds every minute. Who else will? Every second, my husband tries to recollect all the people he has met in life, and goes to their doorstep asking for help. My husband has borrowed around Rs. 70,000 from so many people but we still need much more.” – Deepali.

Swarnali has cancer that has taken away her ability to walk

Just around 10th April 2018, after Swarnali’s resistant fever wouldn’t die down, her blood reports revealed that she was suffering from acute lymphoblastic leukemia, which is a deadly form of blood cancer.

Cancer spread so rapidly that Swarnali had no option but to start chemotherapy instantly. To survive, the 5-year-old needs additional therapy and medicines. But, given the family's poor financial condition, getting additional treatment seems impossible.

Rana and Dipali can’t watch Swarnali get tormented every day

“Every second or third day, she needs blood and there are just so many injections that she keeps on getting. Watching so many needles pierce her skin is the most difficult thing to watch. Then there’s the brutal chemo that she has to go through. She takes around 8-10 tablets per day too. She’s our only daughter and I just want her to recover and take her home.”
Once happy and cheerful, Swarnali has become sad and frustrated.

Rana can’t even afford to pay rent anymore

“We live pretty close to Kolkata. She tells me every day that she wants to go home, but how can I tell her that once we go back home, the landlord is going to ask for rent and I have just Rs. 1000 in my bank account. We have been away from home for 25 days and I’m running out of money to even buy food.” – Rana.

How you can help

It has been just 3 weeks since Swarnali started her treatment but Rana has already spent all his savings. From 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. Rana works as a milkman, distributing milk from doorstep to doorstep, and after that, he works at a small retail store. He earns a small sum of Rs. 6000 every month despite working so hard. The rest of the treatment and medicines cost around Rs. 10 lakhs and Rana cannot afford such a large sum. Now, he needs your help to save his daughter.

Your support will save 5-year-old Swarnali and ensure that she continues undergoing chemotherapy.
