The number of hungry people in India has increased greatly in the past few years. Approximately 14% (20 crores) of the population of India goes hungry each day and suffers from nutritional deficiencies.
The problem is not that there isn't enough food production, but rather that people lack access to food. Many people don't have enough money to purchase food.
India has relatively high rates of hunger than most of the countries of the world. It is ranked 94 among the 107 countries in the Global Hunger Index(2019).
