Hey folks, this is Stuti Sahu. I am a college student, a climate activist and working under couple of NGOs, aiming to provide equal rights to women.
Women in Indian society had long history of being submissive and subordinate to men. Hegemonic patriarchy normalizes such differences and discrimination against women.Women for long have received derogatory status because of the fact Women Undergo Menstruation. They have been considered as impure.
Even after seven decades of Independence, women in Indian society are struggling to get proper menstrual hygienic care.Today, menstrual hygiene has become a major challenging developmental issue in a developing country like India.
Menstruation is a biological process which is completely healthy but still IT IS CONSIDERED A TABOO IN OUR SOCIETY.There is high level of stigma about menstruation. The major reason for such deeply engrossed social norms in Indian society is the high level of illiteracy, poverty, and lack of awareness about menstrual health and hygiene.
Let me show this pathetic reality in figures-
• According to UNICEF study, only 13% of girls are aware of menstruation before menarche.
• As per health ministry data only 12% of India's 355 million of women use sanitary napkins, over 8% of women resort to alternative such as un-sanitized clothes, ashes, leaves, husk and sand.

Women lacking awareness about sanitary products resort to unhygienic means to deal with their periods. This causes rashes various infection and even cervical cancer.Women find difficult to move out of their home due to superstition associated  with menstruation. This in turn hurts their financial Independency.
This all  creates a phenomena called "PERIOD POVERTY", where menstruation becomes difficult and unaffordable experiences for women.
Here  Hamari Pahchan has come up with it's initiative 'SUKHAD' for women. After having known about this project how can a girl like me ,who has been witnessing such stigmas and patriarchy, stop herself to join this campaign.
Under SUKHAD, we aim at creating menstrual awareness and providing assistance to those women who still find difficult to spend their regular periods with proper healthy means.
Hamari Pahchan NGO conducts it's distribution drive every week in which SUKHAD kit is distributed, consisting of pads, soap, disposal paper and other necessities.
Per kit price: Sukhad kit for 1 woman = Rs. 1,400/-
Sukhad kits for 5 women = Rs 7,000/-
24 packets of sanitary pad
6 packets of soap
Disposable paper

To transform this ambition into reality, we all must come together. I humbly request you all to donate for this cause. So guys let's break all these stigmas and taboos regarding menstruation ,and help women in making their period handling process safe and comfortable. Because "Menstruation is not a problem, but poor menstrual health definitely is ."
