This year, many states of India have suffering serious drought and water scarcity due to that, agriculture, livestock and other livelihood resources have been affected. Around 230 districtshas more than 20% rainfall deficit. Most of the districts of Bundelkhand Region have 300 – 500 mm rainfall. Because of scanty rainfall, Bundelkhand is reeling under severe drought as well. Due to lack of rainfall, insect attack and abnormal rain cycle, this region faced massive crop failure during monsoon season & there is hardly any possibility of thecrop to balance the loss during Ravi season. Many farmers of Bundelkhand are forced to migrate to other cities in search of livelihoods while some have committed suicides due to the burden of debt. Most of the water sources in the region including wells and ponds have dried up already. Due to lack of rainfall, the dams have not been able to store much water. The administration has to take thesupport of the police to stop water theft during the Rabi crop season. In some of the areas, the water table has gone 30-50 feet down from the normal starata. Women, who are the worst sufferers of this drought, have to walkfor at least 3-4 km in search of water daily. There is a sharp increase in human migration in this region. Children are in deep crisis due to lack of care, protection & nutritional need.Though the government of Madhya Pradesh has declared drought in the affected districts, however support &relief action from Government is not initiated yet.
To highlight the plight of the ordinary citizens of Bundelkhand, and of the country, the Jal Jan Jodo Abhiyan and Jal Biradari along with many civil society organizations, are organizing a national water convention. The three-day event will take place from 1-3 December 2017 at Shilpgram, Khajuraho.
The objective is to bring all the people, including voices that are unheard, together and come up with a solution that ensures that no village remains without water in the region.
Ahead of the convention, a yatra, covering around 7000 villages, will be organized that will seek to reach out to all like-minded people.

Jal Jan Jodo Abhiyan is a nationwide campaign begins with an objective to ensure water security, community rights yearlong water security for all, protecting pond, lakes, and rivers through community participation by motivating society by developing water literacy campaign. This movement acting as joint perform of civil society organizations, Universities, Professors, lawyers, students, journalists, writers, NSS, NCC, volunteers & grass root water activists throughout the Natation. Besides its core objective i.e. to pass the water security bill at the national level, the campaign is working for rejuvenation of 100 rivers in 22 states through community participation, 10000s or water bodies are being rejuvenated or protected from pollution, encroachments.
The campaign is also strengthening deprived and suppressed communities like Dalit, tribal, women population and empowering them to strengthen their voices to secure water rights.Jal Jan Jodo campaign was launched in 2013 working on water issues from twenty-two states under the leadership of conservationist and Stockholm Water Prize winner popularly known as `Waterman’ Rajendra Singh. Jal Jan Jodo Campaign is coordinated entirely the nation by National Campaign Coordinator Sanjay Singh, he is involving in the day to day activities and strategy planning assisted by campaign team from its secretariat located in Jhansi. Parmarth Samaj SeviSansthan is the secretariat of the Campaign. The main objective of the campaign was to connect people with water conservation issues. The campaign leaders believe that government schemes alone will not be able to end the water crisis in the country and to make them effective people’s participation and ownership is necessary. In twenty-two state campaign leadership are active in mobilizing civil society on water issues.

It is a voluntary organization registered under the Society Act of 1860.Its main objectives are to work for the marginalized and deprived sections of the society. We have been working for 22 years, towards bringing a qualitative improvement & change to the lives of the vulnerable & deprived people of India. Parmarth Samaj Sevi Sansthanis working with marginalized communities in the Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. To this day, the organization has directly reached 4 lakh beneficiaries in 497 villages in 7 districts of Uttar Pradesh & Madhya Pradesh.

We are working especially in the areas of Natural Resource Management, Water & Sanitation Rights with a strong gender & inclusion perspective,Environment Protection and Climate Change, Right to Food, Work and Livelihood,Women and Girls’ Rights, Education (with special focus on Dalits, Adivasi, Women & Girls) and Health & Nutrition. We are working with the partnership with the European Union, Welthungerhilfe, NABARD, Hindustan Unilever Foundation, PwC India Foundation, USHA International, IGSSS, Coca-Cola India Foundation, Ministry of Rural Development & Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.One might think, how is this possible, and argue that since there have been no rains, there is little one can do about it. To some extent, it's correct to say that droughts occur due to rainfall failure. But it is not the only reason. One cannot always blame nature or destiny for this. In the past, insufficient rainfall occurred every third or fourth year, but its impact on water, fodder, agriculture and employment was not so immense. More than the natural causes, poor government policies are responsible for the ongoing crisis.
In times of drought, it's the responsibility of the government to provide relief by abiding by the guidelines of the Supreme Court. These include:

Successful experiments in this regards across the country will be presented here. In the conference, other beneficiaries of Bundelkhand like around a thousand farmers and fishermen are expected to participate.

In times of drought, it's the responsibility of the government to provide relief by abiding by the guidelines of the Supreme Court. These include:
- Every individual will get 5Kg of food grain as ration. Those who do have ration card are also entitled to this.
- In summer vacations, the school children will continue to get the midday meal. In a week, they will also get egg and milk in three days.
- Those having job cards under MGNREGA will get work for 150 days within 14 days of demanding the work. The payments will be provided within 15 days.
- Farmers whose crops have been destroyed due to drought will get compensation at the rate of INR 5400/are for irrigated land and INR 2700/acre for unirrigated land.
- The recovery of loans should be suspended and relief in interest will be strictly enforced.
- To stop over-exploitation of groundwater. Harvesting rainwater and saving community ponds and wells
- To raise less water-intensive crops and to employ technology to save more water

- Drought Free Bundelkhand Jan JagruktaYatra: Yatra and rallies will be organized in 13 Districts of Bundelkhand Region of MP& UP to promote water-efficient Agriculture, Alternate livelihood opportunities that will be effective in the situation of Drought. Making people aware regarding the Government Schemes. All these yatras will convergein Khajuraho during the National Water Convention for drought free India and share their Experience ofthe ground reality of Bundelkhand.
- National Water Convention for drought free India: Considering the drought situation in Bundelkhand that is turning towards famine the Jal Jan Jodo Abhiyan is organizing National Water Convention in Khajuraho as a platform of experts, Successful Social workers, Government Authorities & Common farmers of Bundelkhand to share their experiences and develop a strategy & Plan of Action to mitigate the situation, with a Collaborative Approach.
- Exhibition: In order to promote awareness and understanding Exhibition and 101 Presentation of successful Drought Resilience efforts around the Nation.
