"Hello everyone,

I'm Dr. Ruchi and I'm raising funds for my treatment. It all started around March-April this year when I started experiencing severe breathlessness. I was pursuing my MDS from Tatyasaheb Kore Dental College in Kohlapur, second year.

Once, I was running to catch a bus and suddenly, I just fainted. That's when I realized something was majorly wrong and I went back to my parents in Mumbai, to get this checked. That's when I was diagnosed with severe pulmonary hypertension. I was on medication and then I went back to my college to pursue my masters when the Kohlapur floods happened. It only made my condition worse and I had to return home when my doctors informed me that my lung pressure was way too high to get treated via medication and I was asked to undergo a lung transplant because there was no other way, no other treatment which would help me recover.

I'm currently back home with an official medical leave form my college for my treatment. This treatment is costing me 50 lakhs and I need your support to go ahead with the transplant. "

Ruchi, a 27-year-old bright medical student, finished her graduation to become a dentist. She is in the 2nd year of her post-graduation at Tatyasaheb Kore Patil Dental College, Kolhapur. Ruchi, who is competitive and jovial, hasmany awards for her excellence in her medical studies. Eagerly looking forward to start her own practice after finishing her post-graduation, Ruchi felt that occasionally she had trouble breathing. “One morning, in March, my life took a turn for the worse. I woke up to attend my lecture and struggled to walk even 50 metres, from my hostel to the lecture hall! These episodes of breathlessness continued for a few days, until things became so bad that I couldn’t walk 10 feet without support. And then, something as simple as changing clothes would knock me out for the rest of my day.”

She would walk a little in her college and find herself panting. Even climbing a flight of stairs was a difficult task and she had to either hold the railing, or take the support of a friend. So she happened to visit a doctor to understand what is happening with her. She was told by the doctor that something is not right with the ECG. She was granted leave from her college and she left for Mumbai. In Mumbai, she consulted multiple doctors, who ran multiple tests on her. The tests revealed that the pressure in her lungs was way above the normal range of 8-22 sg.

“I was referred to a Pulmonologist at Global Hospital, Mumbai. where I was diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension. The news came as a shock to us and my mother broke down. I was told that I could not continue my education, and that I may need a dual lung transplant or the condition would put my life at risk,” she added.

The family got to know that the condition of the lungs is irreversible and is deteriorating. The only cure for her condition is a lung transplant which needs to be done as soon as the family can arrange for the funds.
The cost of her surgery, medicines, and post-operative costs would sum up to Rs 50 lakh. Her parents cannot afford the cost of the surgery.

“My father works in an automobile showroom, and has done well enough to provide for my brother, Prathamesh’s, and my education. My father had taken a loan for my post-graduation studies. His income is not much, but he has gone beyond his capacity to raise us well.” she mentioned.

“I was at the top of my life, until a few months ago, when I turned 27, then everything changed. I write this appeal in a state of despair, as I can barely muster enough energy to socialise, focus, walk, or even talk anymore,” said Ruchi.
