    Aliza Khan

    from Mumbai, Maharashtra

“The day Aliza was born, my happiness knew no bounds. Now she cries all day and nothing I do can comfort her. When Aliza has something as harmless as rashes, we are scared to death. It transforms into big wounds from which blood oozes out and we have to rush her to the hospital as soon as we can. I have no words to explain how helpless I feel” - Shireen, Aliza’s mother.

1-year-old Aliza has recurrent and multiple infections that would end up turning fatal for her unless she gets urgent bone marrow transplant in few weeks. The cost is huge and the parents, who are struggling to make their two ends meet, are in no position to save their little daughter. If the surgery doesn’t take place, Aliza would not live to see her fifth birthday.

A simple rash, a common cold turns into something that can endanger Aliza’s life

Little Aliza has been diagnosed with Type I Leucocyte Adhesion Deficiency (LAD). It is a life-threatening condition where even simple infections can aggravate into something that can endanger her life. The infections develop in soft tissues, such as the gums, skin, and muscles. They recur or worsen with time and eventually lead to the death of the tissues.

“ She looked absolutely healthy when she was born. There were no complications at all. Who would have thought that something so deadly would affect my child. Now every passing minute is a nightmare for us. ” - Shireen.

Parents could not fathom how a perfectly healthy child could turn so sick

Aliza has been suffering from numerous infections from a few months after her birth. Shireen and his husband, Abdullah had no idea that these seemingly simple infections were indicators for something so grave.

“We noticed that Aliza took a lot of time in healing from wounds and recovering from other infections. She was eating all fine but her growth was also not normal. We took her to so many doctors but no one could tell her what was wrong with her. By the time we got to know about her disease, it was already too late. If we don’t do the surgery soon we will lose her.” - Abdullah.

Father has no fixed income and he cannot afford the life-saving surgery for his daughter

Abdullah Khan has no fixed job that would fetch him regular income and he has a big family to support. Besides Aliza, Shireen and Abdullah also have a 6-year-old son, Zakaria. Abdullah’s father is old but even then the condition of the family has forced him to look for jobs.

“Our savings are over and only after we borrowed from our friends and relatives that we were able to arrange for the initial costs of the treatment. But the rest of the cost is enormous - I have never seen that much money in my life. Every night I go to sleep with the thought that if the money is not arranged I won’t get to see my daughter any longer.” - Abdullah

How you can help

Aliza’s disease does not allow her white blood cells to function properly and leads to frequent infections in the soft tissues of her body. The infections worsen very soon and every time she needs to go through a series of antibiotics and injections. The only permanent solution for this is an urgent bone marrow transplant that would cost the family 36 lakhs rupees. They are not in a state to gather such a huge fund and the only way they can make their 1-year-old daughter survive is through your kind support.
