    Ankit

    from Hyderabad, Telangana

Hello,
Myself Ankit Raj. I belong to Bihar and I am currently pursuing my post-graduation from IGNOU New Delhi in Distant Learning Course.
The objective of this fundraising campaign is to seek your help in funding myself to attend a symposium at   ‘Asia World Model United Nations’ taking place in Bali, Indonesia in November 2019.

Keeping my humble economic condition in mind, Your simple help means a lot to me :)
I am sure you would want to know me better before deciding whether to help or not. So here is my story:

Since childhood, I have wondered how does the world function! To me, it is very intriguing to witness millions and billions of action being taken in a very short span of time to run public-oriented systems. Amidst the rapid changes in our socio-economic challenges, I have been inquisitively interested in knowing and learning - How do we solve issues of social importance? How do we arrive at a large-scale systemic solution wherein we can aspire and ensure 0% mishap and 100% effective outreach to those who need to be benefitted by those solutions?

Since the early stage of my life, I have been sincerely interested in finding solutions to the issues of social importance. Hailing from Bhaisahin, a village in Gopalganj, which is one of the most backward districts in Bihar, I have personally experienced and witnessed scarcity of basic requirements of- shelters, food and health services. I have seen people suffering from social humiliation and socio-economic isolation due to un-inclusive implementation of the public policies because of various challenges. As and when I have found myself capable of finding solutions to issues like this around me, in my capacity I have found solutions to them, one of the incidents is as follows-

The village Story:

In my village Bhaisahin, there was a road which was supposed to connect the eastern and western part of the village. But It was never ever properly constructed with relevant strong materials. My village being a flood affected area, the so-called road would be of no use during Monsoon season. The road remained impassable and would be covered by rainwater. People who commuted from this road met with accidents as the congested water would result in a rough road with large hollow puddles in between on it. Because of the water congestion and no proper drainage it had become a dump yard for the waste and dirt from a nearby locality, resulting in the source of several diseases. The same was the reason for people to avoid the road to commute, hence the nearby area had become a favorite spot for antisocial elements in the locality.
I filed an RTI and found that the funding invested in the construction of the road was mentioned in official documents and the road was constructed. In official documents, it was mentioned that the road is built but in reality, there was no sight of it. Keeping all these in view, I wrote to all levels of administration. Further, I found that the local administration had a false report authenticated by the village sarpanch, saying that the road had been constructed and hence nothing moved. I approached Chief Minister’s Office, the District Magistrate’s Office, Local Development officer’s, and did RTI activism, made people collective to appeal the Gram Panchayat. Despite the struggle of 3 years, the road was yet to be built.
In the 4thyear at the time of assembly elections, the district magistrate came to our village to make people aware of their voting rights in a democratic country like India and go for 100% vote cast. The very same day, I wrote a letter to the magistrate along with the signature of almost 120 people that we will not walk on a heavily damaged road to use our franchise right as a demonstration of non-cooperation to an unresponsive administration. The impact of the letter was that the District magistrate ordered immediate action by the block administration and people were deployed to make the road overnight. Within two nights and one day, the road was built completely.
Apart from the aforementioned, I have also lived in the rural set up with tribal people and understood the people who live in rural India are quite insecure of the advanced world around them.  There is a huge resistance in them to welcome the mainstream development creating a vast trench in their socio-economic development. The sustainable solution to this is that we need the advanced world to go to them through policies which are implemented in the complete spirit of their betterment, without challenging their roots, instead, cherishing them empathetically, in accordance with the changing needs in the global sphere.
Myself, having a proven track record of understanding the complexities of human nature and social problems, I find myself in a position to influence the system by working on the issues proactively. Since I am adaptable and also in a way always in pursuit of betterment for people, I find myself suitable and I am already selected as one of the delegates at Asia World Model United Nations (AWMUN-III), wherein people across the world attending this symposium will share perspectives on pressing systemic issues, and brainstorm on the possible sustainable solutions on the same. I will get to understand the theme of The Implementation of World’s Agenda 2030 conducted by outstanding speakers that will discuss recent international issues.

By attending the Model United Nations, I would be able to learn several things which may enhance my capability and lend my hand in the movement of freeing this world from scarcity, poverty and inequality.

To be more specific, being part of AWMUN-III symposium my learning would be directed towards:
  • Solutions for Indian Health and Education System which be in sync with the global order.
  • The global network will enrich my knowledge of several technological interventions for better governance.
  • Understanding the work culture at the United Nations Organization will help me to understand how global interventions can be made from the best practices of the ground.

I am sure if the community invests in me at this point of time, I am capable enough to pay it back with a world having fewer problems and allowing better lives to many.

The breakdown of my expenses is as follows :
Rs. 29,000 for 2 days stay food and local travel in Bali.
Rs. 49,000 for To and Fro Tickets from Hyderabad to Bali.

I request you to please contribute to the creation of a better human resource like me who is committed to devoting life to the world.
