I'm a part of the community outreach program by Hamari Pahchan NGO. One of their projects has greatly inspired me, and I have decided to work for it . 'SUKHAD' is the name of the project. The NGO helps underprivileged women spend their periods comfortably with proper means and information under this initiative.
Sukhad project targets at helping women of India to achieve a better menstrual hygiene, spread awareness about menstruation and to end the stigma and silence about menstruation and menstrual hygiene . Not only men but women who themselves have periods every month have been a victim of these social taboos and myths ,which results in no proper knowledge about their bodily functions which effects them physically as well as mentally. The social taboos and myths makes it 10 times more for difficult for women to have healthy and hygienic cycles. The pure process of preparing a women’s body to give birth to new life is considered dirty in the society. The natural biological function of the body is only allowed to be talked about in closed rooms, The pain has to be tolerated in silence and for many the act of buying pads, tampons etc. is an act of bravery and even shame for some. Its high time for the society to change and normalize menstruation and its effects.
Sukhad initiative includes
Providing sanitary pads, educating them on proper menstrual hygiene, and raising awareness that 'periods' and discussing them is not a taboo topic, but rather a normal method.
स्वस्थय को है बचाना तो हर औरत को है पैड इस्तेमाल मे लाना
