Why am I fundraising?

We are fundraising to support the education of the children from Bedia Community at Bhopal under our program STEP so that they can see future away from the prostitution imposed on them traditionally.

How do we plan to use the funds?

Your help will be used for children's overall educational development, in the following ways: 1) Additional tuitions to fill the gap of bridge courses 2) Stationary and Books 3) Medical treatments and other health related expenses when children are at Bhopal 4) Counseling sessions twice a month to each child 5) Encouraging their artistic inclinations, and 6) Exposure visits.

What is Bedia Community?

Mainly present in MP, UP and Rajasthan of India, Bedia is a de-notified community, whose livelihood depends on serving sex commercially. Traditionally, women earn for the family, while men either choose to pimp them or sit idle. According to the rules of the community, at least one daughter from a family should join the flesh trade; otherwise the family faces social exclusion from the community. Women who prostitute are not allowed to get married at all, and women who are married are not allowed to prostitute. Education is still not considered an option, and often girls are pushed into prostitution at very young age. How will my donation reach children?

After years of dialogues, Samvedna has been able to open up community's doors for a few children every year and has brought them to Bhopal for studies in a positive environment, beginning from 2011. Samvedna looks after the care and protection of these children at Bhopal, and also helps them monetarily, as far as it can. Your donation will be spent solely on children's growth, and organization will take no percentage of it. At the end of an academic year, Samvedna will produce a report of its expenses on children, if some amount is unspent, it will be used in further year, and if the donation doesn't reach the required amount, Samvedna will try its best to add the remaining.
