The world is developing and reaching new heights everyday with new discoveries, inventions, better infrastructure, education and healthcare. But despite all this modernisation, industrialisation and development, the topic of Menstruation and Menstrual Hygiene and Practices are still supressed and quietened. Menstruation is something that each and every girl in this world experiences for almost more than half of her lifetime. The silence around menstruation, lack of access to sanitation facilities and hygienic absorbents directly affect women’s and adolescent girls’ self-esteem, health and education. Menstrual Hygiene Practices include:
•    Using a Sanitary Napkin instead of a cloth to reduce chances of infection and for more comfort
•    If Reusable cloth pads are being used, wash them properly to avoid chances of infection upon resuse
•    Change the sanitary napkin every six-eight hours
•    Wash the genital area after each use of the toilet, also after urination
•    Keep the area between the legs dry otherwise soreness and chaffing may develop
•    Dispose the used sanitary napkin in the dustbin and NOT in the toilet
•    Eat healthy food to avoid weakness
So, we all need to play our part in educating the girls around us about Menstrual Hygiene and breaking the taboos.
