The novel coronavirus (covid-19) pandemic has emerged as a global health crisis and it is important to fight against it on all fronts. India’s PM Narendra Modi announced a 21-day lockdown, effective March 23, to begin with, in a bid to arrest the spread of Coronavirus. In further efforts, the lockdown was extended until May 3.

While the outbreak and the consequent lockdown have impacted everyone's way of life, it has proved more difficult for people who fall in the vulnerable categories — those with pre-existing medical conditions, older people, homeless, migrant workers and daily wage workers.

In India, it is the large number of migrant workers and daily wagers and their families, who don’t necessarily have a place to live, are the most affected. With no work, they have run of whatever little money they had to buy food. Their situation is bleak, to say the least.

Amid this humanitarian crisis, four people — Wasim Ahmed, Qais Khan, Amir Khan Sherwani and Nikhat Rahman decided to distribute raw food and other hygiene essentials like soap, masks, hand washes, sanitizers, etc. to vulnerable sections to help them not only in their fight against coronavirus but also hunger. The four friends are reaching out to various vulnerable communities across Delhi/NCR.
Currently, they are able to distribute around 500 packages every day, which is grossly inadequate in the face of the massive demand. The cost of each package is Rs.700.
- 4500 households provided with ration packets. Inshort we ensured food security to 22,500 daily wagers/distressed migrants through supplying essential commodities.
- We are running 3 kitchens, one in Muzaffarpur (Bihar) and 2 in Kanchankunj (Delhi). Completely initiated by local muslim community, so we are just ensuring logistics and looking after essential supplies to these kitchens. These local muslim groups feeding people across caste, class and religion. So far these kitchens provided 20000 cooked meals to daily wagers.
The recurring demand from families, who were helped earlier, as they are running out of ration. And to top that we are still getting fresh calls from those who were not in problem until 21st April but are now facing acute shortage of basic provisions mainly ration.
The government is not providing other essentials like cooking gas, vegetables, spices, etc., therefore we need your support to help provide these families with essentials, which can enable them to have basic meals.
All this was possible only by your overwhelming love and support.
Our target is 10 days ration for around 3000 families, cost of one kit is around 700 INR, so we are expecting to raise 21,00,000/-INR. By targeting 3000 distressed families we would be ensuring food security to the population of 15000, primarily from working class i.e. migrant labourers.
We need more material and non material resources to sustain this untill these daily wagers won't get any sustenance through employment and food security.
You’ve done your bit and it was your effort which has enabled us to help those in dire need, now it’s time for a little extra.
