It was a moment of pure joy - the instant we came to know that my wife was pregnant with twins. But soon, it all turned into the scariest days of our lives when we lost one of our babies.
I am Watler Darpalkar and my wife is Caral Darpalkar. We lost one of our babies on 16 August 2017. Caral was seven months pregnant. Everything was alright. We had just taken her for a routine check-up and during the ultrasound, the doctor told us that one of the twins is dead and my wife had to undergo urgent cesarian if we wanted to save the other baby from dying. We were shattered. Still, my wife went ahead with the surgery and our son was born.
Immediately after birth, he had to be admitted to Surya Children’s hospital as he is suffering from extreme prematurity, extremely low birth weight with respiratory distress syndrome and sepsis, presently he is on ventilator support in NICU.
While my wife and newborn son were going through all this, I was burying the tiny, motionless body of our now dead son.
Time is running out for this little babyI sell fish to make a living. If things go well, I make close to Rs. 5000 per month. We have two more kids. One nine-year-old and one five-year-old. They both go to school.
As per his treating doctor, my baby is slowly recovering and likely to remain in the hospital for 4-5 weeks more and the total estimated cost for the treatment is approx. Rs 3,75,000/-, we have already contributed Rs 100000/- for the treatment. But now we are finding it difficult to raise the further amount.
