4% of India’s total child population of 20 million are orphans; with most of these children having been abandoned by their parents. Many of these children are fortunate enough to be placed in institutions but going forward their rehabilitation process depends on the charity of the institutions they are placed in.

The result of this has been that while some of these orphans receive vocational training and others even higher education most of them are left to fend for themselves. Once abandoned they are abandoned again - and this time within the system!

Project Udaan has identified that in order for rehabilitation to be successful, these orphans require life skills training and social exposure in order to fit in with mainstream society. Under the project, orphans are provided with life skills training through a residential training program followed by vocational training. Then, they are encouraged to take up jobs or continue their schooling.

Ensuring that these children become responsible and well rounded adults who are incorporated into society is absolutely essential for our society and country. What they deserve is not abandonment but a shot at success. let's all collectively contribute to this goal.
