What happened?

On Saturday, April 25th in Nepal, a large chunk of rock 9 miles below the earth’s surface shifted, unleashing a shock wave that ripped through the Kathmandu Valley. The 7.9 magnitude earthquake that followed was described as being as powerful as the explosion of more than 20 thermonuclear weapons. At least 3,326 people are now known to have died across Nepal, China and India. More than 6,500 people have been injured, according to the National Emergency Operation Centre and hundreds of foreign and Nepali remain trapped in the mountains. The worrying after effects of such an earthquake, leaving thousands displaced and without shelter, are the lack of sanitation and the spread of disease.

Why am I fundraising?

This fundraiser is in support for the severe Earthquake which took the lives of thousands in Nepal, destroying people's homes and ancient historic monuments alike. While search and rescue missions are being conducted, hospitals are overflowing and survivors are scrambling for food and shelter.

A Nepalese Home Ministry official Laxmi Prasad Dhakal told Reuters that rescuers were "in a really bad shape" after working non-stop for two days. "We are all about to collapse."

Please help in my effort to support our neighbours in their struggle for adequate treatment, food and shelter.

Where will the funds go?

The entire amount raised will be donated to Oxfam India to help the victims recover, and help others suffered to get to safety.
