“I try consoling him and calming him down but his pain is so much that nothing I do helps him. He hasn’t seen his face yet and I am worried that he might be in a shock when he sees it for the first time." - Sowmya, Mother of 5-year-old Nakul.

5-year-old Nakul has always been a happy-go-lucky child who loved playing with his toys and reciting ‘Humpty Dumpty’ - his favourite rhyme that he learnt in school. His parents, Vasanth and Sowmya, couldn’t afford to take their eyes off little Nakul who is always upto some mischief. Vasanth and Sowmya were happy in their little world in Tumkur with Nakul - they didn’t even have an inkling that their lives would soon turn upside down. Now, little Nakul is in the hospital, fighting a severe skin disease that has ravaged his face and body.

No one could have guessed that a reaction to a medicine could turn out to have such horrific effect on little Nakul

Nakul has been diagnosed with Steven Johnson Syndrome. It is a rare but serious disorder of the skin and the mucous membranes and usually stems from a reaction to a particular medication. He is now in the hospital and needs to continue staying there for observation and medical care.

“Since Nakul was 2 years of age, he had been having convulsions. They were not very serious but we took him to a doctor and the medications that he had prescribed have been able to keep the convulsions under control. But just a few days ago, one of his medicines was changed and soon, he started running a high temperature. His temperature was so high that we had to get him admitted to the hospital in Tumkur.  In a day, boils started showing up on his entire body and initially they thought it was chicken pox. But as the painful reddish rashes spread, the doctors told that it is serious and advised us to take Nakul to Bangalore,” - Sowmya.

Nakul needs to stay in the hospital to get completely cured of the painful rashes but his parents can’t afford the treatment

Nakul is in a lot of pain as he still has a high fever and the rashes on his body are constantly itching. The little child is feeling restless as he is tied to the hospital bed with bandages all over his body. He is tired and weak and he keeps asking his mother to take off the bandages and take him back home.

He needs to be in the hospital but we are too poor to arrange for Rs 5 lakhs that can help our son continue to stay. Our relatives have been very kind and have helped us collect about Rs 4 lakhs for Nakul’s treatment so far - there is no way that we can turn to them for help again.

How you can help

A farmer by profession, Vasanth is trying very hard to get his only child the treatment that he needs. But after spending lakhs, he doesn’t have any money left and without external help, he won’t be able to save 5-year-old Nakul. Your kind support can help Vasanth and Sowmya get their son treated and bring him back home healthy.

Your generous contribution can help Nakul live a healthy life
