McPherlain's Graduation Dream

McPherlain’s Graduation Dream
I am finally graduating!
My name is McPherlain Chungu. I am a Bachelor of Arts student in India, and I will be graduating in May 2017. I am a Zambian national and I have been studying in India since 2012. I am the last and eighth born child, and I will be the first in my family line to receive a Bachelor’s Degree. This is a significant achievement and a source of pride for us. If I can think of anyone who deserves credit for this, it is without doubt my mother. That is why I am asking for your help so she can attend my graduation.

As a single parent, my mother has had to fight against all sorts of barriers just to provide for us. She is a woman whose right to education was taken away in rural Zambia. However, she strove to ensure all eight of us got at least a high school Certificate. In 2006, my mother was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, a condition that negatively affects her activity to this day - but being the determined woman she is, even that hasn’t held her back.

I am raising money for two return tickets because my mother would need someone to assist her get here considering her medical condition. It will be challenging and expensive to fly her across the world, and as things stand she will not be able to attend my graduation ceremony. I can only say that it would not be a graduation without her present.

The main reason that has led me to resort to crowdfunding is that it would mean the world to my mother to witness this moment that she has worked so hard for - that is, having at least one of her children receive a bachelor’s degree. She is a woman who gave everything just so I can get an education. If there is anyone who deserves this degree more than I do, it is my Mom.
Help me get her to attend the ceremony.

First of all, thank you to all the people that have supported and shared this campaign. I am REALLY grateful. We reached the goal!

However, a few people have come up to me and said I should keep the Campaign open as they still wish to donate. So I have not closed the campaign, you can still donate. Extra money will go to visa costs, lodging and transport to and from the airport.

Thank you again.
