    Mohamed Osman

    from Hyderabad, Telangana

At an age when he should be in school with kids his age, 13-year-old Mohamed Osman is in a hospital in Hyderabad, waiting for his family to save him. Osman has Crohn's disease and requires long-term treatment to stay alive. His family, however, is very poor and is struggling to arrange the funds required to save their youngest child's life.
It started few months back, when Osman complained of frequent stabbing pain in his stomach. His stomach aches have been a concern for the family for a while, but it was only after that the pain became seemingly unbearable for Osman, did they realise the severity of it.
"We took him to hospital and doctors ordered multiple tests. Soon we got to know that he has a disease called as Crohn's. We hadn't even heard of it", said Osman's brother, Abdul Rashid.

"Osman wails in pain"
Crohn's Disease is a chronic inflammatory disease of the digestive tract. Those with the condition have abdominal pain and diarrhoea, sometimes bloody, and weight loss. Mohammad has been suffering for the last two years and his condition has worsened. He needs to undergo long-term treatment for his condition, along with a surgery immediately.
"He had to stop going school because he is in so much pain all the time.  He keeps crying, complaining of severe pain in his stomach. He cannot even eat anything without going through pain. It breaks my heart to see my little brother like this", said his brother.

"Father left us at an early age"

Osman's elder brother, Abdul Rashid is only 18-years-old and already supporting this family of four. He works as a delivery guy for Swiggy and makes minimum salary. Osman's mother is a housewife and his 16-year-old sister is a student. His father, now separated from the family, does not give any financial support.
"We are all we have. Our father left us when we were young and our mother raised us with a lot of difficulty. As I am the eldest one, I decided to look after my families needs. Our condition wasn't good even before, but now, with my little brother's condition, we hardly have anything left to even eat at the end of the day," said Abdul Rashid.

Family of humble means

Despite doing their best to arrange funds for Osman's treatment, his family is still coming up short. Time is running out, with every passing minute putting Osman's life in even more danger.

"We have sold everything that was of value to us but still are nowhere close to arranging the required amount. The doctors say that they will do the surgery only after we deposit Rs 5 lakhs in hospital's account. So far, we have hardly managed few thousands. Time is of essence for my brother. There is no one to help us, and I shiver in agony even at the thought of losing my brother due to our financial condition. My mother is numb with grief, seeing her youngest child so much in pain right in front of her life," said Abdul Rashid.
