    This fundraiser will benefit

    Kaushik Mahadanda

    from Chennai, Tamil Nadu

“I have nothing to comfort my Kaushik. He wants to know why his parents are not around even when he is suffering so much. Telling him that his parents are suffering too doesn’t really make a difference. I think he understands that his battle to live is going to be without his parents but he just can’t be at peace with it.”

Kaushik was misdiagnosed for many years that has only aggravated his condition over the years

7-years-old, Kaushik has been forced to leave his parents Tufan and Sujata back in Bankura, West Bengal and has to stay in a hospital room where needles haunt him. He was an extremely active child, now Kaushik can barely do anything.

"Even as an infant, he would keep getting fever every other day. Living in a dirty village, children tend to fall sick. His fatigue got worse as he grew up. Doctors around West Bengal could not figure out what was wrong with him. This only made it worse. He even stopped growing. He now has a fever all the time. His stomach is bloated. He has stopped eating completely and vomits if we force feed."

It took 6 years to know that Kaushik’s body is giving up

After 6 years of tests and medicines, finally, the family was told that little Kaushik has stage 4 Hodgkin's lymphoma, a severe form of blood cancer. One one hand, his parents wanted to give up, while on another, they did not want poverty to take his life.

"Our little grandson is breaking emotionally because his parents are not with him here. We try to comfort him while he is in pain, and he says. 'I don't want to you. I want Ma and Baba! Take me home! Please!' All we want is for him to stay alive. My daughter is losing her mind, we cannot let him see tha"

Kaushik's mother is mentally ill and his father cannot leave her alone even for sometime

“Sujata has become mentally unstable. We don’t even know the proper reasons for it. She doesn’t talk to anyone, randomly walks out of the house and some neighbor brings her back home. In this condition how will she take care of her son? ” - Grandmother.
Tufan has to take care of Sujata back at home. Leaving Sujata alone even for some time becomes very risky. Tufan is upset that he can’t be with his son. His entire family is anxious and he doesn’t know how to balance either.

Expenses have doubled, but the income has reduced

Both Tufan and Sujata used to work on other people’s farms in their village. Their combined income amounted to Rs 100 to Rs 200 per day depending on the amount of work they could get. Now Tufan is combating medical expenses for his wife and son all by himself on just Rs. 100/day.

"6 months ago, when they found out he had blood cancer, they got all the help possible and admitted him for chemo in Bangalore. After 2 cycles, the money ran out. They had to return and could not even afford to travel back. Pausing the treatment then, meant pushing Kaushik closer to death."

How can you help?

Kaushik is suffering from a rare form of blood cancer and the only way to save him is chemotherapy. The cost required to save him is Rs 10 lakhs.

“How can a peasant family get Rs 1.2 lakhs in 2 months? That is exactly what we spent during his first chemotherapy. My son-in-law starves so he can repay the debts. We are just left to beg now. There's nothing else that can save Kaushik."
Your support can help Kaushik return to his parents.
