Our mother, Mrs. Poonam Rohira, age 52, is suffering from Autoimmune encephalitis which is a rare neuro-psychiatric disorder. The cure as informed presently, includes 6-8 weeks of admission in ICCU initially with first line of treatment using IVIG injections and steroids followed by second line of treatment then ICU and ultimately in normal ward. My mother has bravely gotten through 2 weeks so far.

In December 2016 she started having problems moving her left hand. We consulted a MD and as suggested by him, carried out few blood tests followed by X-RAYs to identify the cause but, he couldn’t spot anything. Day by day her health started deteriorating and daily routine activities started becoming difficult for her. Gradually she wasn’t able to do anything without help. As these weeks passed by where we were trying to understand what’s really happening, we consulted a Neurologist and he started medication for Nerves disorder followed by MRI scan after 10 days. The MRI scans suggested bulged discs issue. She had now become physically weak and mentally depressed. On Jan 16, 2017 we rushed to admit her to a hospital in Chembur, Mumbai.

In Sushrut Hospital, Chembur, Mumbai. After 2 days she was shifted to ICCU. Till date she’s being treated in ICCU since then.

Who is the doctor and what does he say?

Doctor Ramesh Patankar, an efficient Neurologist is handling our mom’s medical case. He suggests we would have to continue the present treatment for more 6-8 weeks to be able to see improvements and provide medications accordingly.

Progress so far

There has been very slight improvements in the recovery process which is a bit slower than expected but we are hoping for the best.

Initial Medical Tests= ~ INR 20,000/-

Medicines= ~ INR 2,00,000/-

Hospital bill till date (5th Feb 2017)= INR 4,68,994/-

Additional tests= ~ INR 35,000/-

Total= ~ 7,23,994/-

As recommended by the doctor, the treatment would continue for more 6-8 weeks. In order to adhere to the same, we would need to bear twice to thrice of the above mentioned expense, that is it would reach around 12 to 14 lacs which I cannot bear all on my own.

We are a family of 4 (mom, dad, younger brother, me) and I am sole earner software engineer. We live in a rented apartment and I cannot afford taking a loan right now. My mediclaim of INR 2,00,000 has been exhausted already for the same and we have put all our savings so far in to this. We would still have a long way to go hoping we would have the help from you in seeing our mom smiling and back up again recovered thanking everyone who might help us.

It’s my heartfelt request to extend your help in any amount possible. All your funds and prayers will help my mother to recover as early as possible and lead a normal life once again with same smile on the face. She is very caring, loving and brave. Now she needs our help to get proper medication.
