Conserving Rare , Endangered and Threatened (RET) Tree species of Western Ghats. The project would be implemented in Wayanad district in Kerala. Wayanad is fast losing its' native tree cover to rubber, arecanut and silver oak plantations. Most of the coffee estates in Wayanad used to have the old growth native trees that supports large variety of endemic species. Now the original tree cover is lost due to the rampant monoculture practices. The project aims to conserve original tree species of Western Ghats thus supporting biodiversity conservation outside the forest (ex situ ). Many species thus planted are also medicinal in nature and planting of these would eventually support the local people to harvest medicinal herbs that are used in traditional medicine.

The money received from this campaign would be used to plant atleast 150 different species on a 10 acre land . The cost of planting would involve procuring of the various evergreen tree species from nurseries , basic land preparation task like trenching, irrigation, soil mulching, preparation of local jeevamritam for plant maintenance, supporting one supervisor and 2 labourers on a regular basis for maintaining the planted saplings for 3 years. The idea is to create islands of such groves which would become germplasm for these trees.
