Seventeen-year-old Anitha ended her life because she could not make it to a medical college. This was a tragedy waiting to happen, caused by the education system in Tamil Nadu that is playing with the lives of young boys and girls. The argument is that NEET works against poor students from rural backgrounds; they cannot afford the specialised training needed to crack the test. In the absence of NEET, twelfth standard marks became the sole criterion for admission. This had to end sometime, and it ended when the State’s political clout in Delhi evaporated with the passing away of Jayalalithaa. It was not as if this change was unanticipated. Many students from the State who had placed their bets on NEET indeed went to court against twelfth marks being brought back as the criterion. Anitha was the daughter of a poor, daily-wage labourer, whose dream was to be a doctor. She scored excellent marks in her Class 12 exams (1176) & excellent-196.5 medical cutoff and hoped they would help her get admission to a medical college.

we (group of social workers and social activists) have planned to build a clinic in the name of Dr. Anitha at Ariyalur (her village). When we spoke to Anitha's family, We got to know that her biggest dream was to build an hospital at her village & serve people. Hence, after talking to her family and neighbours, we have decided to raise fund and build a clinic at ariyalur in the name of ANITHA and the clinic will be opened by her father. we will implement this once we have raised enough fund for opening a clinic and everything will be done after the press meet. We are talking to doctors about the equipments and requirements, everything will be implemented successfully. I kindly request all the good souls to contribute for Dr. Anitha's Clinic at Ariyalur. We will upload a video soon with her family members regarding the clinic and her dream.
