Why are we fundraising?
As volunteers several of us got involved in cleaning the Madambakkam lakes garbage over the last two years. This is a 250 acres water body and has no fencing or bunds hence people continue to drive into the lake and dump trash. To prevent this and protect this lake that is home to several birds and other aquatic life forms, we wish to initiate a few steps including the removal of weeds, thorny shrubs and raise a bund to prevent vehicular movement. EFI is being supported in this initiative by volunteers such as Aarti Ramachandran (Barclays Bank Employee), Aravind Sundaram, Karthik Shivsundaram and others...What do we plan to do with the funds?
a. Remove thorny weeds and invasive shrubs from the lakeb. Have a clear bund raised along the 680m stretch where there is no existing bund.
c. To remove the dumped construction debris, domestic trash.
d. To have percolation pits resurrected to ensure water holding in the lake
e. To organize native species plantation at the lake boundaries.
