"Somewhere along the way, we must learn that there is nothing greater                                         than to do something for others."
                                            Martin Luther King Jr

BACKGROUND

The threat of COVID-19 in India extends beyond the virus itself in the form of a multitude of social issues, and the hardest hit are daily wage labourers, migrant workers, street vendors and the homeless, whose livelihoods were crushed under the lockdown.

WHO ARE WE?

We are Sang (संग), a group of young leaders who have come together with a simple motto in our hearts: "Locking down hunger, together"

WHAT ARE WE DOING?

The two approaches that we use to provide relief to the communities in need across Delhi and India are as follows -

  • Direct Approach: We are collecting funds that are being used to supply food (essential ration), soap and sanitary napkins to families facing the worst backlash in this indefinitely long nation-wide lockdown. This is happening in the areas we have all the links established, from vendors to volunteers with a strong supply chain.
  • Collaborative Approach: Through this approach, we reach out to partner organizations with strong bases in areas we do not have access to. Several of these include Saajha, Paigam, and Udayam Trust, amongst others. We facilitate the process and ensure that we have records for transparency. In such cases, the approach is modified, and we go case-by-case in getting the resources to the community in need.

We have also initiated two campaigns to tackle the issue of increasing domestic violence (#SabkeSang) and to facilitate the movement of migrant workers to their homes. We hope to enable rehabilitation by providing employment to impacted communities currently living without livelihoods or a source of sustenance.

OUR IMPACT & OUR TARGET

We have supplied 14000+ individuals with 2-4 weeks’ worth of essential relief items. However, given the indefinite prolongment of the lockdown, we are determined to serve as many people in need as possible. Our target is to raise a minimum of Rs. 15,00,000 or supply worth the amount, and we need your generosity and support to achieve this goal.
