About the campaign

What does Jeevarathni Foundation do?

The Jeevarathni Foundation has been in operation for 5 years now. Registered in 2008, we have 35 children in our care, 80% of who are girls. Our project site is at Nallur village, (9km from Hosur) and 11 km from Sarjapura town. Our children come from extremely impoverished backgrounds, with horror tales to tell. All of them have at least one parent - most of them have mothers, but are incapable of bringing them up. All these children are recommended to us by Social Groups, and we take them after vetting each one carefully to judge their requirement for help.

How does Jeevarathni operate?

The mothers we employ to take care of children come from poor backgrounds. Hence, it is a two-fold benefit to both of them. The aim plus is to provide a wonderful haven to heal, recover, and grow in an environment of love and care.

Jeevarathni is the refuge for them to forget their dark past and begin a fresh lease of life, free from the earlier turmoil they faced. We hope to bring up these children, so that they have an equal footing amidst the stiff competitive world of today, and make them good citizens in this world. Towards that aim, the big plus point is that this campus is a home to these children, and not an institution. Our desire is to provide them a safe haven, proper education, health and abundant love and affection, so as to ensure that they can be confident adults when they step out into the world.

The main help and guidance that the children need is for their education and career. They go to the local Government school; with the hope that we can bring up the standards of the school However, this seems to be an uphill task, and since we cannot afford to send them to a private school, we hope to get online training, and associated help from other NGOs to help in their quest for knowledge.

Currently, we have employed two teachers in the government school, so as to make up for the deficiency there, and also a tuition teacher who comes to the campus every day to provide some supplementary education. Focussed skills training such as music, dance, art, spoken English and sport is expensive, and that is an area that we are looking for from experts in the field.

How will our funds be used through Bangalore Marathon?

We truly appreciate every support we get here. The funds would go towards building a computer room is required as we do not have a proper room for the children to learn computers. At present the computers are kept in a unused house as we are not at the top capacity of children at the moment, but when we get more kids, will have to use that home. Plus a proper room gives the proper environment to our kids to learn computers and for the equipment to be suitably stored.

The repair project - it has been 5 years since we started using the premises. There are leaks and cracks in the houses that need urgent repair and also the houses need painting. These are basic things required for the children to live comfortably.
