About the campaign

Why am I fundraising?

Here's my personal experience as a Prime Minister's Rural Development Fellow (PMRDF) at Malkangiri, Odisha :

I went to monitor “Routine Immunization (RI)” to Singaniguda village, Podia block, Malkangiri district, Odisha. It was very sad to know that a 2-month baby boy died of Pneumonia. This baby was born at home with birth weight of around 1.9kgs. When I asked why the mother was not brought to hospital for delivery, below was the response from the health worker:

“We brought the mother to Maternity Waiting Home 7 days before the EDD (Expected Date of Delivery). But she left the home without informing anyone as one more pregnant mother from the same village has left the place. Then she had delivered the baby at her home after a couple of days. The tribal people do not understand the importance of deliveries at hospital how much ever we tell them.”

Out of the 5 mothers who came for RI, 4 had deliveries at home. There is an ASHA worker & Anganwadi worker in the village who are doing their job to create awareness and motivate mothers for institutional deliveries but still the case.

On my way back to the district headquarters that day in the evening, we brought a just born baby (Low Birth Weight (1.3Kgs) along with the parents to the District Headquarter Hospital and admitted in Special New Born Care Unit (SNCU).

What do I plan to do with the funds?

We will be educating mothers, their families & communities on best health care practices related to safe & healthy motherhoood. We have collected good videos from reputed sources through which we can easily educate the illiterate people. We will be recruiting a "Swasthya Saathi" in each village. We are going to pilot the project in Singaniguda village itself. Based on the learnings, we will be scaling up the project to a lot of other needy areas. Below is the action plan:

    • Load the videos into low-cost tablets.

    • Train the field functionaries on using the tablets.

    • Field functionaries show the videos to the tribal people.

    • Incentivize field functionaries based on the number of Videos shown to number of people.
