Makkala Jagriti which means “Awakening of Children” is a non-governmental organization that seeks to create a holistic learning environment for emotionally and economically deprived children.

Founded in 2003, its core focus is to provide a strong foundation in education and the overall development of a child in their main center located in Malleshwaram. To achieve the above, it addresses areas such as: Intellectual, Language, Emotional, Social, Physical and Spiritual Development

Current Scenario:

  • Children from marginalized backgrounds have limited opportunities to explore, experiment and empower themselves
  • Primarily role  based learning which is limited to only text book
  • School dropouts find even fewer forums for learning
To expose these children to quality learning opportunities, Makkala Jagriti works in different kinds of spaces:
  1. It runs learning centers in underprivileged slum communities
  2. It partners with Government Schools by integrating holistic learning for school children
  3. It also runs centers in Government Shelter Homes which houses street and orphaned children.
Mentioned below are the areas of improvement for active community participation and sustained efforts.
