A courageous person living her life on her arms after childhood polio paralyzed her legs, my mom raised me to be independent. Despite the challenges of living that way, she became a doctor in the hope of helping others avoid the situation she has been through. Being a Fulbright scholar and a National Award winner for her study on Learning styles of people, she raised me to brave the very facets and challenges of this life. A doctor by profession, a mother by love and a teacher to her students, she enjoyed everything she had been faced with and loved what she did. It is perhaps balance, or fate or whatever others may call it to be, that she has become a victim, like many other countless people, to one type of Cancer namely Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). What makes things worse is that, she as a doctor knows exactly what the problem is with her body, knows exactly what the outcome of each situation is and this has an effect on her mental strength.

It is currently in the later stage but the doctors told us that there is a possibility of getting through this provided her body responds to the treatment. She underwent a 7+3 dose of intense Chemotherapy, leaving her requiring blood and platelet donations very often to help her body fight. She did come out on top during this phase despite high risks. We managed these costs with her savings but the next phase is to have a Bone Marrow Transplant for which the donor is from the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) here in the USA. We were turned down by two potential 10/10 matches but finally a 9/10 match agreed for the transplant. However, we need to pay $40,000 upfront to NMDP in order to proceed with the Stem Cell transplant and are in need of help for this phase.

As her son, I know there is still fight left in her and I want to be able to see her up and about her life once again. Any donation will help at this point. It is left to my younger sister and myself to manage this situation right now and we will always keep in mind the generosity of people like you and do our best to help others when we earn. I want to thank you all for the support you have extended to us. I will provide updates on the progress of treatment as soon as significant events occur. Thank you!

P.S.  My mom likes to write too. She isn't the best condition to do so now but I hope she can write about herself someday soon.
