Greetings dear supporters,
Hope you all have been keeping safe and well. The entire team of Shoshit Seva Sangh thanks you all for the love and kindness you have extended towards this cause. Here's a small update for your kind perusal.

Our school building

The prime objective of our initiative is to impart quality education to the poorest of the poor, the children of Musahar community of Bihar. Shoshit Seva Sangh (SSS) runs a fully free English medium residential school at Patna for these children. The school is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) up to higher secondary (+2) level.

School Assembly

SSS has established the Shoshit Samadhan Kendra, with a view to impart quality education to the Musahar children. The school provides all the necessary facilities and the environment for imparting quality education. It has a highly qualified faculty and the student teacher ratio is 1:20. The children are provided with all the necessary facilities such as books, stationery, clothes, school uniforms, toiletries etc. apart from free boarding and lodging. The dormitories are spacious and each student is allotted a bunk-bed with bed linen, mattress etc. There is provision for indoor and outdoor games. It is expected that many of the students graduating from this school will successfully compete for admission in institutions for higher learning.

Let us share with you how many people have benefited from this initiative:
·        No. of Direct Beneficiaries: 506
·        No. of Indirect Beneficiaries: 5060

The key objective of this project is to empower the children of the Musahar community of Bihar through quality education so that they can make a quantum jump in life and become catalyst of change in their community. This community of almost 3.5 million has lived in abysmal poverty for centuries and unfortunately the benefits welfare measures for rural development has not trickled-down to them. This project aspires to create forces of change within the community which is sustainable, self-propelling and with a cascading impact. Thousands of children passing out from the school in the years ahead will become that force of change.

SSS has not withdrawn funds from Milaap so far, and have recently created two withdrawal requests of ₹2,92,883.27 and $7,432.86 to the bank account of SHOSHIT SEVA SANGH, which have been reviewed and processed. The funds shall be spent towards payment of salaries of the teachers and staff of Shoshit Samadhan Kendra.

Students performing on 'Merchant of Venice'

99.5% of the Musahars are landless agricultural laborers, and literacy rate among them is the lowest, hardly around 3%. It is estimated that it shall take 4,419 years to secure 100% literacy. This will plague Bihar for years. For centuries Musahars have worked as bonded laborers. Historical records suggest that they were forced into crime by landlords and mahajans. Deprived of hope and opportunity Musahar youth have also joined the ranks of the Naxalities in Bihar particularly in central Bihar.

If the facility of quality education is given to sufficient number of students of the Musahar community on a continuing basis, it shall change the profile of poverty in due course. What  has  not  happened over centuries can be achieved in a matter of couple of decades, if sufficient support is extended to the project of SSS.

School Dining Hall

The project was launched in 2007 when the school was established in a modest building. Within a span of 5 years the school project acquired over 2.5 acres of land in Patna at a cost of almost Rs.3 crores and has constructed a residential school building which can accommodate over 1000 students in residence. The school has a foundation for a G+3 structure. Hence, the school operations can be scaled up by over 300% in the years ahead. Scalability which must be an essential element of an impactful NGO has been achieved by Shoshit Seva Sangh. The residential school building complies with all the specifications laid down by the Central Board of Secondary Education which in as an exceptional gesture has given affiliation to the school within three years of its coming into existence.

Shoshit Seva Sangh has also established long-term alliances with all its major donors in order to fulfil the common objective of empowering and ameliorating the lot of the poorest of the poor. The dimension and potential of this project are immense. It can become a model for bringing about transformational change in deprived and exploited communities not only in India but all over the world.
