Bhubaneswar: A team of promising mountaineers of Odisha under the banner of ‘Go India Adventure’ today earnestly appealed for patronage and financial assistance from the State Government and other sponsors for making their proposed ‘Biju Patnaik International Seven Summit Mountaineering Adventure’ materialized and successful.
They have planned to scale world’s highest peak Mount Everest and others like El Bruce, Kilimanjaro, Aconcagua, Denali, Vinson Massif and Narstarj Pyramid.
They also aim to install the statues of the great men who have dedicated their lives to the nation and Odisha.
Convening a press meet today here, it was informed that 21 young mountaineers under the leadership of mountaineer Nilachal Parida have passed the preliminary course on mountaineering. Among them are four girls and 17 boys. They have been issued certificates by the Pahalgam-based Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering & Winter Sports under the Union Defence Ministry.
They wish to fly the Tricolour for 24 hours on the mountain peaks, acquaint the global forum with the Odishan and Indian culture, install statutes of our great men on the seven summits, propagate adventure tourism in Odisha, promote youth adventure in Odisha, spread the message of ‘Save Mountain & Clean Mountain’ and make the world know well the martyrs of India and the Khurda Paikas.
The team also seek that adventure sports should be accorded status of State Sport.
Addressing media, Nilachal Parida said, “Our team comprises about 25 members, both boys and girls. Our target is to place the culture Odisha on global platform. No one from Odisha has completed the seven summit adventure. The seven summits belong to seven continents. First is Everest, El Bruce, Kilimanjaro, Aconcagua, Denali, Vinson Massif and Christrage Pyramid.”
He informed, “Now we want to start from here to Manali. There is Mount Inam Peak. Its height is 6,100 metres. We have already been granted permission from the appropriate authority. We will leave for Manali on September 30. Returning from there, we proceed direct to Delhi and from Delhi to Europe. Our trip has Biju Patnaik’s name, Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s name, names of all Kargil Saheeds. We will also place the identities of these great men on the global platform.”
He further informed, “Along with me, 10 guys will go for climbing the summits. About Rs 20 lakh is the expenditure. We are campaigning door to door. No help we had received earlier. Being a driver, I had to manage everything from my own pocket. Our journey will begin from September 30. It is of two years package. If the climate favours and financial assistance availed luckily, we will do it.”
