Fundraise for a Cause with Milaap : the Best Crowdfunding | Milaap

Dear Supporters,

I am Uthra Nagarajan, an Open Fellow with Milaap. I had the opportunity to visit Chennai Primary School at Kannammapet where Alaka Varma, a TFI fellow and the champion of this campaign works.

Teacher to Class 3 kids, her classroom was buzzing with activity. Alaka took a break when I got there and led me to the newly done library. This was the library that was put together with the help of funds raised on Milaap.

“The money raised on Milaap was used to design this space, buy books and the necessary furniture,” said Alaka. The library sports a fresh look and work is on to find more books to add to the collection. To improve the children’s cognitive abilities, Alaka added a set of board games as well, which sits in the classroom cupboard, eagerly shown to me by the kids.

Alaka was also able to spend the remaining money on an excursion for the Class 3 children. They went to Vandaloor zoo for an educational experience. “We went for the excursion during the first term and the kids had some real fun,” smiled Alaka. “We are yet to plan the second term excursion.”

The Chennai Primary School has decent amenities for its students. Sanitation conditions are better than most schools and TFI’s presence has bettered the teaching as well as the state of classroom supplies. Alaka plans to start a community project in Kannamapet, to identify women from the locality (parents of her students) and impart life skills to them to better their living conditions. “But this is still in the initial stage and we are yet to form a solid plan,” she concluded.
