Dear Supporters,

Thank you! This is Sangeeta and her husband from whose shop we got the uniforms made.
As Bharatiya Badhir Vidyalaya is a new school which is growing slowly but surely, our uniforms are not available in the market. It has to be made on order because of its design and colour.
We are extremely grateful to Sangeeta and her husband who agreed to stitch the uniforms according to the required pieces of two sets per student. Which is not acceptable with other tailors where a minimum of 100 pieces have to be ordered.
We are ever so grateful for this huge support.

Dear Supporters

We are happy to inform that we could use the funds for stitching winter uniforms for our students. We would like to share the story of one particular student by name Simmi.

STUDENTS BACKGROUND & PROGRESS
  • SIMMI MISHRA
This is Simmi Mishra, who took admission at BBV in 2017, at the age of 7.
Simmi comes from a remote village in Rewa, in Madhya Pradesh. She is the only Deaf child in her village. Being born as a girl child and that too Deaf, she was  discarded off by her father, who till date refuses to even see her.
Her mother, Santoshi Mishra, being illiterate, and left alone to take care of her daughter, spent most of her time at her maternal home bringing up Simmi.. Santoshi has big dreams for her daughter to be well educated and to stand strong independently when she grows up. She does not want the same life like hers for her daughter. With this dream Santoshi admitted her daughter into the only government hearing school, where Simmi was for 3 years, but did not study anything. Being the only Deaf in her school, no teacher was equipped to teach her. Frustration took over Santoshi, who started beating Simmi because she could not communicate with her.
Simmi’s father, who had left the house after Simmi’s birth, would visit the house few times, to meet his wife. In one such occasion he tried to drown Simmi in the nearby river. This was again repeated this year during her summer vacations by her mother. Now, Simmi will stay permanently with us at BBV which her mother, maternal and paternal grandparents and their families have agreed to. Santoshi will come to the school to visit Simmi during her summer vacations.
Having no financial support, Santoshi is unable to pay for her tuition fees, hostel or even her bare necessities like clothes, soap, toothpaste etc. We at BBV have taken upon ourselves to provide everything to Simmi.
When Santoshi came to BBV in June 2017, she sat on the floor with folded hands and begged for Simmi’s admission stating she could not pay a single rupee. Though we at BBV receive no aids from anywhere, we do not turn away any child coming to our school for education. For, we are aware about the status of Deaf education in our country and we want to make a difference in the lives of the Deaf by giving them proper education.
When we tested Simmi, she did not know how to read or write alphabets and did not know counting. Her signing was very poor. She could not sign or understand any signs. Having lost precious years, we had to start with Simmi from zero.
This is Simmi’s first day at school in July 2017 and with her seniors. Initially it was very difficult to make her sit in one place and to maintain her focus as she had very short attention span. But Simmi is a fast learner and slowly started taking interest in her studies. She picked up sign language fast which resulted in her understanding and learning her studies fast. Her interest grew day by day and at the end of her first academic year at BBV she scored the highest marks in Maths A+ and in English and Indian Sign Language she scored straight A’s.
This is Simmi Today:
A UKG student, excellent in studies, disciplined, a complete extrovert taking part in games, story telling, mimicry, dancing, sports etc, sensitive towards animals, very helpful towards her school mates both at school and at hostel. She is a complete all rounder. There is no doubt that Simmi will not only excel in her studies but will also excel to be a beautiful human being.
We present the different shades of Simmi in this one and a half years that she has been with us.
