(the below update was shared by Laxmi, Vineet's mother over a call)

Laxmi has been sick herself from couple of days.  Low BP and weakness has forced her to stay at home. She has been away from work since Tuesday as doctors have advised complete bed rest for at least 2 days.

Vineet has developed severe fungal infection inside his mouth. Doctors have been treating it on priority. It has been over 15 days since Vineet was transferred to Apollo. His then GCS was 3/15. Today is has improved to 7/15. However, with strong medications for infections, the doctors have kept him on full ventilator to keep him stable. They soon plan to  start reducing his breathing dependency in the coming weeks.

Vineet’s doctor, Dr. Debabrat Biswal, Senior Consultant for Neuro and Spine, was kind enough to share the below note with us to explain Vineet’s condition better.

We will share more updates in the coming days.

Thank you!

Dear Supporter,

Apologies for the delay in posting updates about Vineet's health. The last 2 weeks has been taxing juggling work and paperwork involved for shifting hospitals. Vineet had developed infections causing his hands and feet to swell. Doctors in Ashwini Trauma centre suggested he be moved to a hospital equipped with paediatric ICU. Since Apollo is the only hospital with good pediatric intensive care, we shifted Vineet on 6th May. With sufficient funds raised through Milaap, I felt confident of the expenses to come. I am at loss of words to express how secure I feel with financial backing each of you have provided me with your generous contributions.

Vineet had developed infections in his mouth causing severe mouth ulcers. Doctors in Apollo explained that the swelling of hands and feet was a result of vitamin deficiency. The vitamin supplements administered over the last week has reduced the swelling and also dried most of the mouth ulcers. Also, Vineet no longer needs 100% ventilator support. He breathes well with ventilator on spontaneous mode (i.e the ventilator provides 50% support and assists in breathing). Doctors want to focus on reducing the infections completely as an immediate plan of treatment.

I am hoping Vineet recovers from the infections in the coming days. I will keep you posted with updates regularly. Please keep Vineet in your prayers.

Thank you
Laxmi

Dear Supporter,
I am very grateful to each one of you for showing such support and helping me save my son, Vineet. I am at loss of words to express my gratitude for the well wishes and prayers. I would have never imagined we could raise Rs 30 lakhs in only 6 days. Also, I would like to also apologise for not being able to answer all your calls and clear the queries personally. Hope my friend, Tanushree was able to address them all.

Doctors have seen gradual but definite progress in Vineet's condition. They took him off ventilator on Sunday for an hour to see if he his lungs can handle it. And he did. Observing this progress, Doctors slowly are increasing the number of hours off the ventilator. As of today, Vineet has been 6 hours without the ventilator.

Also, his responses have gotten better. When he was hospitalised he gave no responses to touch or sound, but now Vineet responds to pain. He shows discomfort when he is given an injection. He attempts to move his eyes lids when I call his name. Doctors suggest in cases like Vineet, it is a good sign when patient responds to pain.

I am hoping soon the number of hours off the ventilator increase in the coming days. We are also thankful for all your prayers for my little hero. God Bless you. I've heard about miracles, I am very hopeful to see them now.

Thank you,
Laxmi
