Murali is from the “home for the physically challenged”, near Antharagange, Kolar. He had been suffering from congenital scoliosis which was interfering in his day to day activities. When he consulted Dr Thomas, consultant spine surgeon from Manipal hospital, he was suggested corrective surgery for the spine.
Scoliosis corrective surgery is a major corrective surgery, and involves 7-8 hrs. of operation and about 1,00,000/- INR of implants . This surgery costs around 1, 50,000/- INR even after removing the hospital and surgeon fee. And The charges were only for consumables and the implants which we unfortunately could not waiver off hard as we tried. The surgery was done on 6th June 2018 successfully. But Murali had excessive pain in the post operative period, and hence his hospital stay was extended. As of 15th of June 2018, the net payable bill has come up to 2,25,000/-INR and 1,25, 000/- INR has already been paid by the mentally and physically challenged home. Manipal hospital has provided a discount of 50,000/- INR. The orphanage is finding it difficult to the remaining 50,000/- INR.
